Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland shows confidence on fresh rotation – MLB Special
The Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland is showing confidence for his new pitchers. The Tigers now will play with six pitchers in the next Major League Baseball outing.
They recently added Anibal Sanchez with a new deal as he showed good and persistent results in the recent past season Major League Baseball season. As soon as the deal was done, the entire Detroit Tigers roster and management started commenting on this new
development.
Along with some top executives, the Tigers current team manager Jim Leyland also spoke to the media and made anticipating comments about Anibal Sanchez. Not only for Sanchez, but Leyland was also hopeful that Tigers new look roster will now perform with
more thrust in the coming season.
"That's OK, That doesn't hurt anything. Pitching is a commodity. A very valuable commodity," Leyland said, dryly, during a Monday phone conversation after it was formally announced Sanchez had signed a five-year deal, plus a club option for 2018.
“To be honest, I didn't think we were going to get him, But, I don't know, nothing surprises me with Mr. Ilitch (Mike, Tigers owner). He's been awful good to us,” Leyland said of a right-handed pitcher who arrived in Detroit in July following a trade with
the Marlins.
He added, "It doesn't really surprise me in that sense. But I didn't think we could get him the way things were going."
“No question, he has a lot of versatility with his pitches, He's got a little bit of something for everybody. We've got a real good pitcher," Leyland also said of a pitcher who in seven big-league seasons has a 3.75 ERA and whose WHIP (walks plus hits per
inning) the past four seasons has been below 1.3.
Experts also say that Tigers have now become more powerful and probably will give a tough time to all their opponents in the coming season. Along with Sanchez, the Tigers also have Justin Verlander, who is considered of the most offensive players ever pitched
in the recent history of Major League Baseball, will be giving the Tigers added advantage on the mound.
