Detroit Tigers newly arrived Torii Hunter will continue to wear the No. 48 jersey – MLB Update
Another good gesture for the 37-year-old Torii Hunter by the Detroit Tigers is that he will continue to wear his Number 48 jersey next season.
Tigers' starting pitcher Rick Porcello gave up his Number 48 jersey for Hunter as a goodwill gesture.
"Veteran guys usually give a nice dollar amount for a number, I offered him a nice dollar amount, and he said, 'No.' I'm like, 'What's wrong with him?” Hunter said in a humorous manner.
During the press conference, Hunter and Porcello had a nice discussion in a very light manner.
He added, “The money that you offered me, could you donate it to this organization for Hurricane Sandy? That's the kind of guy Rick Porcello is. He freely gave me No. 48."
Hunter, after coming into the Tigers, have already met with Justin Verlander, Victor Martinez, Prince Fielder and is feeling quite comfortable in his new franchise after spending most of the time in his career with the Los Angeles Angels.
"He gave me a lot of information, I asked him how did he like it over there. He said, 'Man that's a first-class organization.' He said, 'You're going to love it.' He wanted me to come over and play with him,” Hunter said about some of the players he met as they gave him important advice to start in a new environment.
Hunter is coming in the Tigers with a two year deal but experts say that this is quite a possibility that he will get another long term deal soon especially with respect of his performance in the next Major League Baseball season.
Hunter is good player and knows his game well. During the past season, he played tremendously with the Los Angeles Angels. He batted with a .313 hitting average along with 16 homers, 92 RBIs and .365 OBP.
Earlier news circulated in the media that the Angels and Hunter’s agent are in discussion regarding a new potential deal but later no progress was made and Hunter signed with the Tigers.
Meanwhile, since Hunter and Tigers signed a deal, fans are jubilant for their team and favourite player for their future relationship.
