Detroit Tigers offensive struggles can lead to their downfall – MLB News
It seems Detroit Tigers’ offensive struggles will cost them a place in American League Championship Series. In their five match American League Division Series against the Oakland Athletics, Tigers struggled to put enough runs on the board.
Tigers’ hard throwing ace Justin Verlander produced a magical performance in series opener to help his side prevail despite putting up a poor offensive show. Jim Leyland and company held their nerves in Game 2 to emerge victorious in a low scoring thriller.
However, they looked short of answers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan as things turned around dramatically in Game 3 to keep the series alive. A’s pitching rotation exposed Tigers’ offensive weakness and they continued their excellent work in Game
4 to level the series 2-2.
"It's frustrating, but that's a good team you're playing," Prince Fielder said in a post game interview. "They're going to make those plays. That's why they're here."
"They won one here," Andy Dirks said at the end of the contest. "Tomorrow's the next game. We don't really worry about what's happened in the past. We never have and we're not going to now just because they won a game."
"Give credit to them," Jhonny Peralta said. "They played good baseball. We need to come in ready for tomorrow and see what happens. Tomorrow is a different day."
Tigers will not be feeling very confident about themselves these days. Despite having some of the finest hitters in their batting line-up, they underperformed with the bat. Credit should be given to Leyland who led his team out of trouble on numerous occasions
this season to give Tigers their second straight American League Central Division title.
Detroit had two of their best starters lined up to start in Game 3 and Game 4 but it seems the A’s have discovered the perfect formula to beat the Tigers. With momentum on their side, the A’s will be certainly the favourites to win the series.
The likes of Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, Austin Jackson and Delmon Young will be looking to put a huge total on the board in the finale to shut their critics forever.
