Detroit Tigers offer $214 million deal to Prince Fielder – MLB News
Prince Fielder is one of the most talented players in baseball right now. The guy has amazing batting skills and he produced match winning performances for Milwaukee Brewers last season. The left handed striker was paid $15.5 million for his yearly services last season.
Hitting more than 30 home runs and 100 RBI’s, he looked in commanding form in 2011. Earning his second-highest career .540 slugging percentage. he was voted third for the 2011 National League Most Valuable Player Award.
The striker will be looking to make the most of available opportunities in his tenure with Detroit Tigers, the Club where he always wanted to be. According to a leading sports website, Brian Cashman wanted to sign on Fielder a long time ago. However, due to lack of funds, he had to wait until the end of 2011.
"He's been wanting that kid since he was a little kid. We knew ownership was going to make a move," Tigers outfielder Brennan Boesch said on MLB Network Radio. "But we had no idea it was going to be Prince Fielder. I'm shocked. I couldn't believe it. I didn't consider it to be an option."
"For this to be the move, it's really exciting for me and the rest of the guys," He further added. "This sends the message to all of us that there's work to be done and we're not going to stop until we get a World Series."
The 27-year-old hit 228 home runs for the Brewers in the past six years and he has shown no signs of slowing down. The move could pay dividends for the Tigers, who recently suffered from a loss of their designated hitter; Victor Martinez.
Martinez was a key member of Tigers’ side as he batted superbly last season. Participating in a routine training session, he experienced a serious knee injury and he is expected to miss the entire next season due to an ACL tear. Fielder is likely to fill that vacant DH spot. Although the Tigers haven’t confirmed the deal as yet, they are probably waiting for Fielder’s medical reports before making the statement.
