Detroit Tigers’ pitching rotation looking strong ahead of the playoffs – MLB News
Tigers pitching rotation has looked in superb form since the start of the season. Justin Verlander is the leader of Tigers’ pitching attack and it is easy to understand why he is expected to play a key role in Detroit’s playoffs series against the inform
Oakland Athletics.
Verlander was the most successful pitcher of 2011 season when he struck-out 250 batters with an impressive 24-5 record. His ability to strike-out batters in crunch situations is what makes him an asset for his team.
With Verlander starting the game, Tigers certainly become a dangerous force. Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland sees plenty of reasons to believe that his team has a great chance to end their World Series draught this season.
In addition to Verlander, Tigers have the likes of Drew Smyly, Jacob Turner, Doug Fister and Max Scherzer in their pitching rotation. Scherzer, in particular, has given some impressive results this season and surely he will be looking to continue his heroic
form during the playoffs to earn a huge pay day at the end of the season.
"I see a lot of guys that have been here and played in these types of games," Verlander said. "I see a team that's been in a playoff-type atmosphere for a month, and showed what we're really made of. So do I think we're dangerous? Absolutely."
"I want to win a World Series, I don't care what I do personally," Verlander said. "Although I think I'd be a big part if we do win the World Series. I think myself, and this team, feels more comfortable going into the playoffs, knowing what it's gonna be
like and knowing that we can win.”
Although the Tigers have made it to the playoffs, they are in it with a few more wounds than expected. However, nothing can be taken away from the pitchers, who give them an edge over teams.
With Miguel Cabrera looking in dynamic touch, Tigers are considered as the favourites for the World Series title this year. Leyland will be expecting his men to keep their focus at this vital stage of the season to give the fans what they had wished for.
