Detroit Tigers ready for World Series challenge – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers will be very happy with what they have been able to achieve in the post-season. For around four to five months, the Tigers seemed to be under achieving as they struggled to get to the top of American League Central Division standings table.
However, Jim Leyland and company improved their game play with each passing game. They looked unbeatable in September when they won majority of their games to replace the Chicago White Sox at the top of AL Central standings.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera posted a Triple Crown season, hitting more home-runs than anyone else to help the Tigers win the AL Central title for the second straight time. Tigers peaked just at the right time.
They outclassed the inform Oakland Athletics in the best of five match American League Division Series to reach American League Championship Series for the second straight season. With ALDS tied at 2-2, ace Justin Verlander produced a magical performance
to shut-out the A’s.
"To be honest with you, people kept asking me the whole series about how the Yankees were struggling," catcher Alex Avila said.
"That's a team that I have so much respect for, because they can strike at any time with a home run," manager Jim Leyland said. "That's how they beat you, and we were able to shut that down. So we were very lucky in some ways, fortunate in some ways, and
we played awful good. I don't want to take any credit away from my team. We played awful good."
Tigers’ continued their pitching dominance against the New York Yankees as well. Doug Fister and Anibal Sanchez made quick work Yankees’ batting line-up in the first two games of ALCS.
Justin Verlander allowed just a run in eight plus innings in Game 3 to give Tigers an excellent chance to sweep the struggling Yankees. Max Scherzer, Tigers’ starter in Game 4, did not allow the Yankees to breathe as he struck-out ten batters in five plus
innings.
Tigers will now face either the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. With 3-1 NLCS lead, Cardinals are looking to likely be the Tigers’ opponents and Detroit will not mind taking a little revenge.
