Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jose Valverde shows optimism ahead of World Series clash – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers' relief pitcher Jose Valverde is showing optimism ahead of their World Series clash against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night. He knows that his team has played brilliantly all season long and now they will be playing for the ultimate prize in baseball.
Jose Valverde, who currently is playing with 3.78 ERA along with 35 saves, 48 strike-outs and 1.25 WHIP, also understands that how important the Game 1 will be to both teams. If any team wins this coming particular game, it will be a huge psychological advantage for them.
It is expected that Detroit Tigers' manager Jim Leyland might call him in the coming game. Justin Verlander has already been selected to start against the San Francisco Giants.
“I feel great. I made all the pitches I had to and that's it, I have my comfort zone, always. Everybody has their bad moments and good moments. The last two days, I've pitched and worked on my stuff to be ready for the (World Series)," Valverde said in detail and explained his enthusiasm for upcoming big game.
Pitching coach Jeff Jones also said of Valverde, "Part of it was his tempo was a little bit slow and we're trying to speed that up, When you get in a situation like he did where he had a couple of games in a row, it affects your confidence a little bit too. I think he's put it behind him.”
Not only in regular season, but the Tigers' nine-year veteran reliever has also showed great performances in the post-season. He played in the very first game of American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees.
Playing at Yankee Stadium in New York, Valverde pitched 0.2 innings and received three hits and four runs. He struck-out two while he showed great consistency during his entire spell.
With his great performance, the Tigers were also able to oust the New York Yankees with great ease.
Along with Valverde, Tigers other pitchers also played well against the Yankees' experienced line-up and held them with great force.
