Detroit Tigers will be relying heavily on Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera this season. The two are the most expensive players in the Tigers’ team right now. Fielder agreed to a nine year $214 million deal with the Tigers a week ago whereas Cabrera is on an eight year $160 million contract.
Batting at number four slot, Cabrera displayed some high quality hitting skills last season. With an incredible .344 batting average, 30 home-runs, 108 walks and 105 RBI’s, he achieved one of the best figures of his career. Following his consistent performances, he was awarded the American League batting title.
Cabrera is very excited at having one of the best betters in Tigers' batting lineup. Although with the addition of Prince Fielder Cabrera is more likely to take on the third base duties, he will certainly have less pressure to deal with this season.
Fielder, on the other hand, will be looking to score another 100 RBI and 30 home-runs season this year. He is looking focused and confident after signing the fourth largest contract in history of the game. In addition to his hitting abilities, the left handed striker is known for his warm behaviour with his team-mates.
"I thought that obviously they feel they're in a position to win and they want to win whole thing," Nolan Ryan commented on Fielder. "They felt like that was probably the one player that could make the difference."
"One of the biggest challenges of pitching to him is that he has a good eye and that he knows the strike zone," he further added. "He's just not a free swinger."
Although there will be immense responsibility on Fielder and Cabrera’s shoulders, considering their abilities, the duo will be hoping to form one of the most dangerous hitting pairs in Major League Baseball.
Undoubtedly, the Tigers will have an edge over their rivals with Fielder’s presence in the batting unit. Dave Dombrowski has also powered Tigers’ pitching line-up to support the batters. However, Jim Leyland and his men will be hoping to execute their game plan to perfection to win the World Series title this season.
