Detroit Tigers rout Texas Rangers 6-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers gave the Texas Rangers taste of their own medicine to secure a comfortable 6-2 win at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Friday, August 10 in the opening game of their three match series.
Tigers’ best hitters Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder once again played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Third baseman Cabrera, who is putting together an MVP calibre season this year, displayed some to quality hitting skills with an RBI
single to centre in the fourth to put his side on the board.
Fielder also joined the party in the sixth inning as he hit a three run home-run to right; Andy Dirks and Cabrera scored to put the Tigers 4-2 ahead. With momentum on their side, Tigers’ offence continued to put pressure on Texas’ pitching rotation.
Delmon Young earned an RBI double to deep right-centre in the sixth and Austin Jackson belted an inside the park home-run to deep right in the seventh to wrap up an impressive Tigers’ victory.
Josh Hamilton homered to centre in the first and Elvis Andrus singled to left in the third to give Rangers an early 2-0 lead but the Tigers staged an emphatic come back to emerge victorious on Friday.
Max Scherzer overcame a shaky start to grab his 11th win of the season. Overall, he gave up just two runs in six innings while striking-out eight.
"When you have Prince in your lineup, you're always one swing away from getting the game back in your favor," Scherzer said. "That's kind of what happened."
"Scherzer was flirting with a little disaster early but he got settled in pretty good," Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said. "We got a couple of big hits and they didn't. They were one or two hits away from probably knocking Scherzer out early. He kind of gathered
himself and pitched very well."
Relief pitchers Octavio Dotel and Jose Valverde combined to pitch three scoreless innings against the mighty Rangers’ batting lineup. Rangers’ starter Scott Feldman gave up six hits and four runs in just over five innings to take his seventh loss of the
year.
