Detroit Tigers secure a comfortable 6-3 win over Washington Nationals – MLB Spring Training
Detroit Tigers secured a comfortable 6-3 win over Washington Nationals at the Space Coast Stadium in Melbourne Florida on Tuesday, March 13 in their Grapefruit League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions. In a display of some
high quality baseball skills, the Tigers dominated their opponents in almost all departments of the game. The Tigers have not lost a single away game this season.
Considering their 4-0 record away from home, it seems the Tigers are executing their strategies to perfection. Jim Leyland and his men adopted a very aggressive strategy in a game that saw several good individual performances.
Manager Jim Leyland will be very impressed with what he has saw from Duane Below and Adam Wilk. Still in search of a fifth, Leyland will consider the left handed starters very seriously. Below made yet another strong show as he allowed just one run on four
hits and three walks in just over two innings. Striking out one and giving up just one run during the contest, Wilk also kept himself in the race. For Nationals, Bryce Harper produced a great comeback performance to impress his manager Dave Johnson.
"It's the best I've felt (this spring)," Jackson said. "The results (were) not necessarily the best, but it's spring training. We get caught up in results in spring training, when spring training is a time where you're getting ready for the season. That's
what we're out there doing. First game I had a walk. I'm not going to go kill myself."
"I've never seen the Harper kid, so I enjoyed watching him take BP today," Leyland said. "He's got a lot of sound in his bat, that's for sure. He was pretty impressive."
Ryan Raburn showed glimpses of his immense talent yet again as he drilled a fastball off Edwin Jackson over the left field fence for a two run home run. Raburn may not have too much experience under his belt but he has shown that he can play his natural
game even under pressure. Leading the Grapefruit league in home runs (4) and RBI’s, he will be looking to secure a permanent place on Tigers’ roster.
