Detroit Tigers secure another huge 9-0 win – MLB Spring Training
Detroit Tigers secured a comfortable 9-0 win over New York Mets at the Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida on Friday, March 16 in their Grapefruit League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
For Tigers, starter Rick Porcello displayed some high class pitching abilities as he allowed just four hits in four scoreless innings, striking out three batters. Porcello will be looking to continue his excellent work in his upcoming spring games.
New York’s ace Johan Santana looked completely out of sorts as he gave up two walks, five runs (including four earned runs) on four hits in just over two innings in Mets 0-9 loss to the Tigers.
"The results were good," Porcello said. "Just continuing to go out there and try to throw quality strikes. I had decent feel for the changeup and slider that was a plus. I'm making progress. I'm just trying to make steps forward and get ready."
"It's one of those things you some see pitchers do," Collins said. "They pound the strike zone, pound the strike zone, and they're fouling, fouling, and they can't get those low-pitch outs and it probably wore him down a bit. But the bright spot was he came
out good, he came out healthy."
With another magical performance, the Tigers have now improved their win-loss record to 10-1, winning all games away from their home. The Tigers are considered one of the favourites to win the World Series title. Although Jim Leyland and his men lifted the
American League Central division title last year, they were unable to make it to the World Series.
If the Tigers can live up to the expectations this season, they will win the World Series title for the first time since 1935. The fans are also waiting desperately for the regular season to start. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can make history
in 2012.
The Mets, on the other hand, will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. With just three wins in twelve games this spring, Mets’ manager Terry Collins has some serious work to do to get things back on track.
