Detroit Tigers secure narrow 1-0 win against Kansas City Royals – MLB Update

Detroit Tigers secured a narrow 1-0 win against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, Missouri on Wednesday, October 3 in the finale of their three match series.
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be very happy with what he has seen from his men this season. Chicago White Sox led the American League Central Division for most part of the season. However, Tigers lifted their game at a crucial time to win their second
straight league title.
Credit should be given to the pitching rotation for giving results on a regular basis. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer had excellent time on the mound as he gave up just three hits in four shut-out innings to lay the foundation of an impressive Tigers’ victory.
Striking-out batters at regular intervals, he kept Royals on the defensive for most part of the game. Relief pitchers Drew Smyly, Luis Marte and Luke Putkonen continued the good work as they tossed up five scoreless innings.
"Our fans are great. We've seen that all year," Royals’ manager Ned Yost said. "Our whole team was doing the same thing, giving him a standing ovation. What he did was amazing."
"Miguel has long been one of the most accomplished hitters in the game," Selig said, "and this recognition is one that he will be able to cherish for the rest of his career."
"A quality guy like he is, it couldn't happen to a better guy," said the Royals' Mike Moustakas of Cabrera who won the Triple Crown Award. "It's awesome to have a front seat and watch this. It's great for the game."
Marte grabbed his first win of the season after he allowed just two hits in three plus shut-out innings, lowering his ERA to just 2.82. Austin Jackson also impressed his skipper as he scored the only run of the game with an RBI double to centre in the fifth
inning.
Tigers have already made it to the playoffs and will be looking to continue their excellent form over the next few weeks to improve their chances of making it to the World Series finals. Royals, on the other hand, will be looking to work hard on their weaknesses
to bounce back strongly in the next season.
