Detroit Tigers’ short-stop Jhonny Peralta feels he deserves Gold Glove – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers’ short-stop Jhonny Peralta has a strong feeling regarding his chances to grab this year’s Gold Glove award that is awarded annually to the best defensive player at each position in each league. This award will be announced on November
1.
Peralta mentioned boldly in the media saying, “It would mean a lot to me to win it, I think I deserve it. I had a really good season. I made seven errors the whole year.”
Jhonny, who played tremendously throughout the regular season, literally earned this confidence. His performance was brilliant not only in the regular season but also in the post-season. During 2011 playoffs, when some reporters asked him about the consistency
level he is carrying throughout the season, he replied. “I worked really hard from spring training to now. I worked hard with (infield coach) Rafael Belliard.”
Now, that hard-work and consistency is about to make him the first Tigers’ short-stop to win the Gold Glove since legendary Alan Trammell in 1984. Peralta’s performance was pretty impressive as he made very few errors during the whole season and finished
with a tremendous record of having the fewest errors by any short-stop in the league. Though, the Colorado Rockies’ Troy Tulowitzki and Baltimore Orioles’ J.J Hardy also performed well but their error records still lack comparison to Jhonny Peralta’s.
Peralta, who arrived in the Tigers roster in July 2008, was not considered the best player at short-stop position by many baseball experts. But as the 2008 season progressed, his game started to improve with a positive thrust while those experts who doubted
his abilities at this particular position acknowledged his impressive skills that later placed him among best fielders of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Throughout his Major League professional career, Peralta has provided many victories to the Detroit Tigers with his brilliant fielding and his excellence on error free performances. This particular Gold Glove award is also based on error free fielding and
given to every player per position by the managers and coaches of each league. Although, the award is yet to be won by Peralta, but chances are high as this year’s Gold Glove honour will favour the Tigers’ amazing short-stop.
