Detroit Tigers should play Miguel Cabrera at third base, Denny McLain – MLB News
Former Tigers’ pitcher Denny McLain has stated that Tigers’ move to play Miguel Cabrera at third base will pay dividends. He is convinced that Cabrera is capable of doing a great job at the challenging third base position. The hard hitting Cabrera was asked to perform the 3B duties after the Tigers signed a multimillion dollar deal with Prince Fielder.
Fielder is one of the most devastating hitters in Major League Baseball right now. Last season he batted aggressively to earn an impressive .299 batting average. He also hit 38 home-runs during the season to cheer up the Milwaukee Brewers' fans. The Tigers will be hoping that he continues his impressive form into the 2012 season to help them win the World Series title.
"This is a wonderful deal," McLain said of the Fielder signing. "You can never be upset about getting a guy that drives in 100 runs and you are a backup to the best hitter in baseball. Now you've got (Fielder) and Cabrera, and it doesn't matter who you put in front or in back of them, they are going to be better hitters because of these two. I suspect Miggy won't be Brooks Robinson at third base, but neither was Brandon Inge."
Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski has made plenty of changes in the Tigers’ line up this season as part of his rebuilding plans. Signing a $214 million contract with Fielder goes on to suggest that he is ready to pay any price for the World Series title in 2012.
With the Likes of Justin Verlander in their pitching-line up, the Tigers have a strong pitching unit to back their hitters. Verlander displayed some high quality pitching skills last season to win the American League Most Valuable Player Award.
McLain is convinced that Miguel Cabrera has the ability and agility to perform third base duties effectively. He further added that the Tigers should play third base with someone who has over .300 career average rather than Inge a batter who managed to hit only a poor .190 batting average last season.
