Detroit Tigers show interest in Atlanta Braves’ second baseman Martin Prado – MLB News
Some recent reports in the media are suggesting that the Detroit Tigers’ management is showing great interest in the Atlanta Braves’ second baseman Martin Prado, who is available in this off-season.
The Tigers need a potential player on second base and with this opportunity opening they are not going to waste it. The Tigers want a possible Delmon Young’s trade with the Braves and if this happens, the Tigers roster will be a real threat to their opponents
in the next MLB season.
On the other hand, during this year’s annual GM meeting in Milwaukee, the Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said, “If Delmon Young hits .300, hits 25 homers and drives in 100 runs, he's going to sign a big contract next year, I don't know that it is
here or somewhere else, but it is going to happen.”
Dombrowski has also stated early in November about the team decision on the trade as he said, “We don’t have to make decisions until later on in the winter time, but right now, we look at him being our left fielder.”
Tigers’ GM was pretty sure as he will not let Delmon go but recent reports have something more logical and his trade is on the cards with Prado coming into the Tigers franchise. Though Martin Prado has battled through injuries during the 2011 season but
still he considered one of the few Major League players who have the ability to dominate the game down the stretch in crucial moments.
This year, Prado had a batting average of .260 including 13 homers, 57 RBIs and .302 OBP but overall his five year career had a .293 batting average along with 42 home-runs, 216 RBIs and relatively well maintained .341 on-base percentage.
Prado’s potential arrival in the Tigers roster will instantly sparked the chances of some other players’ way into Detroit’s franchise. This factor is also important as earlier the Tigers were not agreeing to trade their players for the next season.
It was a unanimous consideration of the Tigers entire management including their GM as fans knew that the Tigers will not involve in any activity that will eventually lead them to spend money on their new signings as well as on trade deals.
However, now it has been clear that the Detroit Tigers are very much inclined towards making some changes and are trying to include some more players to strengthen their current roster.
