Detroit Tigers show interest in free-agent pitcher Anibal Sanchez – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers seem impressed with starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez’s performance in 2012 Major League Baseball season in which he maintained his 3.86 ERA along with 9-13 win-loss, 167 strike-outs and 1.27 WHIP.
Sanchez made his way into the Tigers at middle of the season when he was traded from the Miami Marlins with a non-waiver trade clause.
As he joined the Tigers, he started performing with full focus and showed his valour in the closing stages of the regular season as well as in the playoffs.
Now the Tigers, who, earlier did not speculate anything about his future relationship with the franchise, showing great interest to sign him for next couple of seasons.
"I know it's not going to be an easy pursuit by any means," Tigers' general manager Dombrowski said at the annual state of the team address Tuesday and explained the developing situation regarding Sanchez.
Dombrowski said, “I'm not sure where it's going to lead with him, But I do know that he's a very sought-after guy. Offers being equal, it helps you, Offers that blow you away, it doesn't really make much difference."
Later Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said of Sanchez, "I know he likes it here, But we all know how that goes. You can like it anywhere, if the price is right. He’s earned that right, That’s what six-year free agency’s all about. He’s earned the right to do that, and God bless him."
The negotiations with the free agents are scheduled on Saturday where Tigers will also be offering Sanchez a potential deal. If both sides agree, it will be a huge step forward for the Tigers who just lost the World Series clash against the San Francisco Giants while it will automatically give them a positive boost and enough confidence to enter into a new season.
Sanchez is a world class player and that is why the Tigers and many other Major League teams are also interested to sign him.
He is six-year veteran in the big league and possesses a very consistent career 3.75 ERA along with 48-51 win-loss, 733 strike-outs and 1.35 WHIP. This makes him a high-quality prodigy any team would love to have.
