Detroit Tigers shutout Minnesota Twins 6-0 – MLB News
Detroit Tigers continued their good work and shut out the Minnesota Twins 6-0 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, May 24 in Game 2 of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular
season.
With their win, the Tigers reclaimed the top spot on the American League Central Division standings table. Manager Jim Leyland will be very happy with what he saw from his men in a game. Tigers dominated the
American League for most part of the season last year but they were unable to live up to the expectations, taking an embarrassing 4-0 loss against the San Francisco Giants in World Series finals. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn from their
mistakes to finally end their 14-season World Series title drought.
Tigers’ starting pitcher, Anibal Sanchez, produced another wonderful performance, as he pitched his first complete shut out game of the season. Striking out 12 batters and allowing just one hit in nine innings,
Sanchez dominated and destroyed the Twins’ batting lineup. The right hander showed the stuff he is capable during the 2012 playoffs. Following his heroic run, a number of Major League Baseball teams showed interest in him but Sanchez decided to stay with the
club he loves the most.
"It's not that I go to the mound and want to do something special; it's just that I want to go nine innings, go deeper, get a good command, get a good game," Sanchez said. "When I come to the eighth inning, I
think about it. But when I come to the ninth inning, it's really tough with those guys."
"He's nasty, and he had everything working tonight," Mauer said. "Obviously, you know exactly what is happening, and you don't want to get no-hit. "
Omar Infante put Tigers on the board as he walked in the second inning. Miguel Cabrera continued his excellent form with an RBI single to left and Don Kelly smacked a three run home run to right in the third
to deny Twins any chance of making a comeback.
