Detroit Tigers shutout by Oakland Athletics 0-2 in ALDS Game 3 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers were blanked by the Oakland Athletics 0-2 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Tuesday, October 9 in Game 3 of their five match American League Divisional Series.
With their win, the A’s also managed to avoid an embarrassing series sweep. Tigers secured comfortable wins in first two games of the series. With momentum on their side, Jim Leyland and company were looking to finish off the A’s but that did not turn out
to be the case. Oakland will play another day in this season full of surprises.
Manager Bob Melvin will be very pleased with the way A’s fought back under pressure. A’s never count themselves out, no matter what the situation is. Starting pitcher Brett Anderson played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he out-dueled
his counterpart from Detroit, Anibal Sanchez.
''You see him hit it and you just kind of put your head down a little bit because you think you just gave up a homer,'' Anderson said in a post game interview. ''Then you see him plow through there and catch the ball and it kind of kick starts you to go
out there and make pitches.''
Oakland showed excellent defensive skills on Tuesday evening to avoid yet another playoff sweep against the Tigers, cutting their deficit in the five match series to 2-1.
Coco Crisp, who had a forgettable time on the plate in Game 2, took a spectacular catch at the top of centre field wall in the second inning to save a home-run by Prince Fielder.
''Not to be all over-confident or anything, I think I'm going to catch everything out there,'' Crisp said with a smile on his face. ''Obviously it doesn't happen that way - duh Detroit, right?''
Yoenis Cespedes provided the A’s with an excellent start as he singled in the first inning. Seth Smith also made his presence felt with a solo home-run in the fifth inning.
Oakland’s two runs proved to be plenty on a night when Tigers’ high priced offence including Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera and Fielder were shut-out by the A’s.
