Detroit Tigers’ slugger Prince Fielder getting better and better – MLB Update
Prince Fielder has looked in decent form since the start of the season. Tigers’ first baseman was acquired from Milwaukee Brewers during the offseason to give the offence a jump start and he has not disappointed Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave
Dombrowski since making his debut with his favourite baseball club.
Fielder is a naturally gifted player. He has the ability to hit a home-run even on the best sliders and fastballs. His ability to see the pitch early is what makes him a nightmare for the opposition. The left hander belted 38 home-runs with 100 plus RBI’s
last year to post one of the finest seasons of his career.
His stats for this season are not looking bad either. In 112 games played, Fielder is averaging .314, which is considerably higher than his career average of .286. Of course, he would have like to hit more than 19 home-runs by this stage of the season but
Fielder is one of those players who gets better with each passing game.
"I think we're just getting good pitches and not missing them -- that seems to be what happens," Fielder said. "See it, hit it, pretty much. That's what is easiest for me."
"That guy is incredible. I saw this guy when he was in Milwaukee," Tigers’ starter Anibal Sanchez said in an interview. "I know what he's got, so it's really good being on the same team."
He was the top selection for American League All Star Game along with team-mate ace Justin Verlander. In June 2012, Fielder also displayed some top quality hitting skills to win the Home Run Derby for the second time in just four years to join Ken Griffey
Jr. as the only players to achieve such a feat. With 28 home-runs, Tigers’ slugger beat Jose Bautista convincingly at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
"Just being mentioned with him is real special," said Fielder. "My dad would let me go over and play video games all day.”
It seems Fielder is destined for greater things in his tenure with the Tigers. However, firstly he will be looking to lead the Tigers to their first World Series title since 1984.
