Detroit Tigers smash Cleveland Indians’ defence 14-0 – MLB Update
Alex Avila drove in three runs coupled with eight strong innings of Doug Fister on Monday, September 26 to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 14-0 at Comerica Park.
The Tigers now seem to have a perfect combination of starters in the line-up in the form of Doug Fister and Justin Verlander. In the last eight outings, Fister has maintained a 0.65 ERA as the game against the Indians saw him giving up three runs and getting
nine strike-outs.
Ubaldo Jimenez of the Indians gave up six runs in the five innings that he pitched while the reliever Corey Kluber proved costly with four runs that he gave up in two innings. Josh Judy allowed four costly runs in the one inning that he pitched.
Ryan Braun scored the first run for the Tigers in the second as Miguel Cabrera scored a single in the third while Alex Avila went for a two-run double to take the score to 4-0. Victor Martinez and Alex scored a run each in the fifth to make it 6-0 for the
Tigers.
Corey Kluber, the Indians’ reliever, could not contain the dominant Detroit Tigers’ offence. After pitching a shut-out seventh, Kluber was in for a big surprise when he came to pitch the eighth as the score stood at 6-0.
The reliever, coupled with Jurdy, gave up nine hits in the 8-run eighth inning to shatter any hopes of the Indians to make a comeback in the first of the three-game series.
As Doug Fister went aggressively against the Indians’ hitters, Andy Dirks scored a single in the eighth, Don Kelly singled to centre, Delmon Young hit a three-run homer, Ryan Raburn singled to right while Andy Dirks scored a two-run double to give an ultimately
safe and comfortable 14-0 lead to the Detroit Tigers.
Duane Below relieved Fister and threw a shut-out inning to conclude the game with a 14-0 win for Detroit. The Tigers put in a tremendous performance as they dominated the game from the start. The Indians will be looking to improve their efforts before their
next match-up.
