Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister is hopeful for next season - MLB News
The Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister is showing some great optimism for his team and expecting good things for the upcoming season. He explained to the media and described his hopes for next season.
Fister said, “There needs to be some down time, we need to take a break from baseball and just kind of enjoy life. We've given it our all. We fought when we needed to fight. We took it where we could. We'll go in with high expectations, that’s why we play
the game. We expect to win every day. We expect to win the World Series.”
Doug was pretty confident saying his team will play with new energy and try to learn from the mistakes that they have committed against Texas. The Rangers outplayed the Detroit Tigers in 2011 American League Championship Series (ALCS) 4-2 and qualified for
the World Series match-up against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Fister has high hopes for the next season suggesting how anxious and determined he is for the Tigers. He has just played his first season with the Tigers and impressed many. He played consistently throughout the regular season and continued his great form
in the post-season.
After arriving in the Tigers’ roster in 2011, he settled his game with Detroit and went 8-1 with a 1.79 ERA in a total 10 starts and finished the 2011 regular season 11-13 with 2.83 ERA. His tremendous pitching placed him among the top four pitchers of the
American League. He was also named Pitcher of the Month for the American League in September 2011 going 5-0 along with a 0.53 ERA in a total of five starts.
Later, against their American League rivals the New York Yankees, Fister proved his valour when he helped his team to win the decisive Game 5 in the American League Division Series. He restricted the Yankees’ hitters with his tremendous pitching and only
gave one run and five hits that proved enough for the Detroit Tigers to play in the American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers.
His phenomenal performance continued in the series against the Rangers, but he could not help the Tigers advance further in the competition. Despite the bitter defeat from the Rangers in the ALCS, Fister’s confidence will certainly help the Detroit Tigers
to bounce back in the next season.
