Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister loses to Chicago White Sox 4-5 – MLB Update
Doug Fister’s inconsistency handed Chicago White Sox a vital 5-4 win against the Detroit Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, September 17.
In his ineffective innings, Fister gave up eight hits and five runs, allowing the White Sox to take complete control of the situation. His poor outing also damaged his ERA to 3.65. Fister looked disappointed at the end of the contest but reassured he will
bounce back strongly.
"That's a situation where every second baseman knows we're coming in hard. And it was a clean slide, and we took advantage of that," Alec Rios said after Chicago’s victory. "We scored two runs on that play and ended up winning the game, so it was a big play."
“Dougie was just terrific,” Tigers’ manager Leyland said to the Detroit Free Press in an interview after the game. “Just two solo home runs. We did the things that usually end up to a win – good pitching, some timely hits.”
There is no denying the fact Fister is an extremely talented pitcher. Every time, Tigers’ starting pitcher steps on to the mound, he gives hundred percent but results have not gone his way this season. His 9-9 record this year tells something about him.
Fister is one of those pitchers who have never given up, even during the most testing times. His ability to handle nerves under pressure is what differentiates from rest of the pitchers in the American League Central Division.
Although Tigers were beaten by their arch rivals, they are still in the playoffs race. If Jim Leyland and company can bring some consistency in their results, surely they can surprise the White Sox.
Fister can play a key role at these closing stages of the season. Leyland will be expecting the pitcher to prove his mettle and lead the Tigers to their second straight AL Central title.
The upcoming two weeks will be an opportunity for Fister to make or break one of the finest seasons of his career. Furthermore, by living up to his fans’ expectations, he can earn another huge payday at the end of the season.
