Detroit Tigers stun Texas Rangers 8-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers stunned Texas Rangers 8-2 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Monday, June 25 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
In some ways, it was a huge win for the Tigers who have now improved their record to 36-37. There is no denying the fact the Tigers have some of the best hitters and pitchers on their big league roster but their results are lacking consistency since the
start of the season.
Right now, the Tigers are sitting at third place on the American League Central Division standings, just two games behind the leader Chicago White Sox. Surely, Manager Jim Leyland and company will be looking to replace the leaders as early as possible to
have any chance of making it to the playoffs.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Rick Porcello struck-out seven batters to improve his record to 5-5. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera showed just why he is a priceless asset for the Tigers as he doubled to deep right-centre in the first inning to put his side 2-0 ahead.
Delmon Young also made the most available opportunities as he singled to centre to extend the Tigers’ lead to 3-0.
"We came out swinging, put some runs on the board early," manager Jim Leyland said. "That let Rick relax a little bit, and he was very good against a tremendous offensive club."
"Something I'm trying to get better at every time is to control my emotions. For me, it's control my tempo and delivery," said Porcello in a post game interview. "With the big lead, I'm trying to keep the mindset that it's a 0-0 game. If I start thinking
I have a cushion, I get complacent and I'm not as good in the strike zone."
Short-stop Jhonny Peralta doubled to deep left and Ramon Santiago singled to centre to help the Tigers take complete control of the situation, leading 5-0 in the first.
Prince Fielder and Cabrera showed great composure in the fifth and the sixth to extend Tigers’ lead to 8-0. Josh Hamilton homered to right in the seventh to put the Rangers on the board. Detroit will be looking to carry their winning momentum forward and
build up some much needed confidence in their game-play.
