Detroit Tigers’ targeting pitching prospects for 2012 – MLB News
As this year’s Major League Winter Meeting is approaching, all the teams including the Detroit Tigers are preparing hard to sign the best prospects for the 2012.
The Tigers are now also desperate as they recently out-righted their first baseman Ryan Strieby’s contract to Triple-A Toledo.
Out-righting Strieby’s contract means that the Tigers have an open spot on its 40-man roster and one more player will likely to make an arrival in the Tigers roster for 2012.
The Tigers’ general manager Dave Dombrowski was present in a meeting on Monday where he said in detail about the new prospects. He was right saying that it is a slight risk for their franchise but in the longer run it might help them in the rebuilding process.
Dombrowski said, “It creates the potential for us to draft, if we so choose -- which we’re still mulling over, It’s hard for Jim (Leyland) or any other manager -- if you’re trying to win a championship -- to carry a guy, For us, in most cases, if we’re going
to draft somebody, it’s going to be somebody that can contribute more than a role in most cases.”
To sign a new player just to fill an empty spot does not make any sense but to sign a player having to recognise the very need of that player in a certain franchise makes a broader sense. This is what the Tigers’ top management is expecting from this MLB
Winter Meeting where all the executives from different franchise will be gathering to discuss their all current and future matters.
Even the Tigers’ GM Dombrowski is right to say on the potential of any new signing in the near future since Strieby’s contract has been out-righted to Minor League affiliate Triple-A Toledo.
Though, no news of Tigers potential new signing has come out in the media but speculations are coming that some free agents will be making their way into the Detroit Tigers in 2012 including Johan Yan, along with Brad Meyers, Erasmo Ramirez, T.J McFarland
and Trevor Reckling.
These players posses a good amount of experience in Major League Baseball and likely to maintain the playing style of Detroit Tigers.
