Detroit Tigers’ third-baseman Miguel Cabrera arrives in Spring Training with full optimism
The Detroit Tigers’ third-baseman Miguel Cabrera is getting ready for the next season as he arrived in this year’s Spring Training with full confidence. Cabrera, who is considered one of the key players in the Tigers roster, is also carrying huge expectations of Tigers’ fans with him. He knows the very results of the Tigers franchise also depend upon his performance as well.
After arriving in Arizona, Cabrera spoke to the reporters and told slight details of his own game plan and how he will be approaching the next season. He said, “I have to do what I can do. We're here to do what the skipper wants us to do. I like third base. If he wants me to play third, I want to play third. It's going to be hard, but I'm motivated.”
Later Jim Leyland also said for Cabrera and his optimism, “Not only did he tell me he wants to play third. He's wanted to play third. He's real upbeat about it. I think he's excited and I think he's on a mission, but when your veteran players buy into what you are trying to do, that's when you have something going. You aren't putting out unnecessary fires.”
Even during last season, Cabrera played wonderfully and performed with full energy. His hitting average remained consistent at .344 along with 30 home-runs, 105 RBIs and .448 OBP. He was truly exceptional with his on-base percentage and received much appreciation from many baseball experts.
On the other hand, now he is looking more determined to play in the next regular season for his own future successes and also for his team. Last season the Tigers came very close to win the World Series Championship, but lost to the Texas Rangers in the American League Championship Series.
However, the Tigers’ all major players are now getting in shape to play well in the next season. They do not want to repeat last season’s poor performances as they showed little fighting spirit against the Rangers and lost bitterly. It will be interesting to see Cabrera playing with full energy next season while it will also benefit the Tigers in the long run.
