Detroit Tigers thrash Chicago White Sox 5-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers were in total command as they secured a comfortable 5-2 win over Chicago White Sox at the U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
The Tigers were unable to execute their game plan in the opening two games as the White Sox took a decisive 2-0 lead in the series. Tigers’ win on Sunday evening will certainly help boost the confidence as they look to improve their winning percentage.
Rick Porcello, once again, showed just why he is an asset for the Tigers, striking out four and giving up five hits. He issued no walks in his 7 2/3 sharp innings. It will be fair to say that he helped his team avoid their first series sweep of the season.
"I was keeping the ball down well and got a lot of groundballs and choppers," Porcello said. "Gerald called a good game back there. We were able to keep them off balance and it was a good win for us."
"All the other starters have pitched well," Porcello said. "It's just the way it's happened so far."
The Tigers were one of the superior teams of 2012 Spring Training Session, winning majority of their games. It seems they have carried over their excellent form into the regular season as they have now improved their win-loss record to 6-3.
With their last World Series triumph coming in 1984, the Tigers will be hoping to cheer up their fans with a much anticipated World Series victory this season. Manager Jim Leyland and company have already shown signs of what other MLB teams can expect to
face throughout this year.
Detroit has one of the strongest hitting line-ups in MLB right now. If they can get the best out of their hitters, their winning chances will increase significantly.
Detroit’s pitching attack was the most successful in the American League Central Division last season with ace Justin Verlander earning an impressive 24-5 record to secure the Most Valuable Player Award. However, the focus will be on the World Series finals
this season considering the firepower of Tigers’ squad.
