Detroit Tigers thrash Toronto Blue Jays 11-1 – MLB news
Detroit Tigers showed great determination and fight spirit and they secured a crushing 11-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto Ontario on Tuesday, July 4 in the finale of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
It was an important win for the Tigers who have looked completely out of sorts over the last couple of weeks. With their win, the Tigers improved their record to 46-38 to stay at the top of American League Central Division standings table. Manager Jim Leyland
will be very happy with what he saw from his team on Tuesday but surely, he will be expecting the Tigers to continue the good work to make it to the playoffs.
“He threw exceptionally well,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. “He looked like he was in command the whole game.”
“That was an impressive outing for him,” outfielder Torii Hunter said. “I definitely think he figured some things out.”
“I feel like Jeff and I have identified what was kind of the kink in the chain,” Verlander said. “It's just a matter making that feel comfortable, making my delivery feel comfortable the right way.”
“He's the table setter, he's the engine that makes this team go,” Hunter said of Jackson. “I definitely think you're talking about one of the best center fielders in the game, offensively and defensively. I'm impressed.”
Blue Jays, on the other hand, failed to make the most of available opportunities in front of their home crowd. Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Esmil Rogers paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound, allowing seven runs on eleven hits in just five innings
to take his fourth loss of the season. Relief pitcher Neil Wagner also failed to control the flow of runs, allowing four hits and two runs in just two innings of relief.
For the Tigers, starter Justin Verlander produced a match winning performance as he allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings while striking out five batters. Relief pitcher Phil Coke and Darwin Downs also made their presence felt as they combined
to concede just one run in two innings.
