Detroit Tigers to discuss trade possibilities in Winter Meetings – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, the Detroit Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski is spending plenty of time talking to other teams to discuss trade possibilities. Apart from the Torii Hunter signing, it has been a very quiet offseason so far for the Tigers.
In an effort to solve the outfield problems, Hunter was signed for a two year $26 million contract a couple weeks ago. On Tuesday, Tigers also announced the changes they have to their coaching for the upcoming season. Third base coach Gene Lamont will be Tigers’ new bench coach, reports mlive.com.
However, what the fans want to know is if the Tigers are going to acquire free agents during the Winter Meetings in Nashville. In a news press conference, Dombrowski said the Tigers have talked to a bunch of teams to see if they can get anything done in the Winter Meetings.
"It always affects what takes place," Dombrowski said. "There's a couple big guys out there, one pitcher and one positional player, that we know in particular that are big. Where they go will probably affect a lot of things that take place."
"We've talked a lot," Dombrowski said Tuesday afternoon. "We've had our people out a lot. I think it reaches that point where you talk a bunch and you talk a bunch and you say, OK, let's see if we can get anything done.”
He added the Tigers are not looking to sign a bunch of players. It seems the Tigers are playing the waiting game. If they can get an outfielder and a starting pitcher in four-day meetings, they will be more than happy to sit back for the rest of the season.
According to sources, the Tigers are looking to add another outfielder to their squad to overcome their outfield problems. Prospect Nick Castellanos and Avisail Garcia could have the opportunity to become a permanent member of Tigers’ big league roster but it will not be surprising if the Tigers end up signing a free agent outfielder. Tigers are still interested in acquiring Anibal Sanchez’s services. Several other teams have also shown interest in him.
