Detroit Tigers will be successful in their long term goals – MLB Update
The running season has proved to be a frustrating one for Detroit Tigers. After making a very strong start to the season, the Tigers are experiencing a huge dip in their form, losing six out of their last seven regular season games. Considering the depth and quality in Tigers’ offence and pitching lineup, Detroit’s fans were expecting their team to be more consistent but that has not turned out to be the case.
The biggest problem for the Tigers has been their inability to win games in front of their home crowd. Earlier this week, Jim Leyland and Company were humiliated at their home by the inform Texas Rangers, who scored more than ten runs in the first two games. Although the Tigers put up a decent fight in the third, they were unable to end the four games match up on a high note and the Rangers won the series 3-1.
Tigers continued their poor form at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan in their next three match series against Seattle Mariners as well. Unable to cope with the pressure, Detroit lost all three games to suffer their first series sweep of the season, which damaged their record to 10-9.
"Not only is it a good club, but we also have a very exciting club," Dombrowski told business executives and a group of students invited to the eighth annual luncheon with the Tigers.
"There's a lot of good players out here. There's a lot of guys who do things in a very exciting fashion," he said. "And it has a chance to be together for a number of years. You can get around this ballclub, because they may be around or a while."
"I think our campaign slogan — 'Who's your Tiger?' — is getting a little bit more difficult to decide, this year," Owner Mike Ilitch said.
General Manager Dave Dombrowski will be of course a bit disappointed with what he has seen from his team in the last week or so but he is convinced that this team is destined for bigger things. The Tigers were expected to sell 12,000 season tickets but they ended up selling 21,500, the GM reported on Wednesday.
