Detroit Tigers’ will possibly spend some more money to improve their standing – MLB News
The 2011 Major League Baseball season proved wonderful for the Detroit Tigers with an overall 95–67 (win-loss) record. Winning the American League Central Division title against the Oakland Athletics, the Tigers went on to win the American League Division
Series against the New York Yankees.
This was a big achievement in itself as they performed tremendously against both these teams and qualified for the American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers.
Though, many baseball experts have started to speculate in the media as the Rangers are more talented side than the Tigers and can easily beat them in the best of seven series, but when the series started, the Tigers gave them a much tougher time and never
showed any loop holes.
However, despite the Tigers playing as one unit in the ALCS, but the Rangers somehow succeeded in defeating them 4-2. On the other hand, that very defeat shattered the Tigers’ management, who later, started to think as to how they can improve their side’s
winning chances next season.
First, the Tigers’ owner Mike Ilitch came out in the media and told a renowned sports journalist. He said, “I want to be in a position to make one or two additions, and generally, they're pretty big additions.”
Some two weeks later, the Tigers’ president-general manager Dave Dombrowski stated in the media regarding Detroit’s performance in the all-important ALCS and said that he is not satisfied with the level of commitment the team showed and now they will come
with more aggression next year.
Dombrowski said, “It's a good situation to be in, I mean, you'd rather be like that. But I also think you're going to do things to try to get better, too. And I think the game, a fine line separates clubs, so when you start getting content where you are,
that can come back and haunt you.”
To get good results in the 2012 MLB season, the Tigers will certainly be looking to improve their current roster. The upcoming free agency-market will give them a huge chance to sign some more good players for the next seasons.
