Detroit Tigers win two in row, beat Cincinnati Reds 7-6 in finale – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers finally won two in a row as they overcame Cincinnati Reds 7- at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday, June 10 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Aroldis Chapman had a horrible time on the mound as he blew away Cincinnati’s four run lead in the eighth and the Tigers came back from behind to snatch an impressive victory.
It was Chapman’s only second loss of the season and it will be interesting to see if he can regain his confidence before his next appearance.
With the Reds leading 3-0 in the third, it seemed the Tigers were on their way to suffer another humiliating series defeat.
Ramon Santiago singled to second in the fourth inning to bring Detroit back into the contest. Austin Jackson’s solo home run in the fifth inning reduced Reds’ lead to 4-2 in the fifth.
However, the Reds showed some great offensive skills to secure a commanding 6-2 lead in the sixth.
Devin Mesoraco and Todd Frazier hit home runs but the Reds wasted their efforts. The Tigers took complete advantage of Reds’ unforced errors.
"It grazed my elbow," Young said in a post game interview. "For an 0-for-2 day with two strikeouts, it was a good day."
"The guys played hard and never gave up. They finally did enough to win one. We hung in there," Tigers’ manager Leyland said. "We beat a guy that throws 105 mph. That's pretty good."
"Taking two out of three from a first-place team and a really good team is a step in the right direction. We've certainly been challenged. We need to get a couple of our guys back," Leyland said. "We've got to be tough."
Tigers’ fans finally managed to see a hit off Prince Fielder’s bat and Santiago scored in the eighth to keep the Tigers in the game.
Austin Jackson and Michael Young displayed some top quality hitting skills to help the Tigers emerge victorious in an extremely competitive encounter. Brayan Villareal pitched two solid innings for his third win of the season.
