Deus Ex: Human Revolution sells 2-million units, Max Payne 3 cost over $100 million to develop
Deus Ex: Human Revolution can now be termed a financial success after recent figures showed that the game shipped more than 2-million units worldwide.
It is always risky to bring a well known and well loved franchise back to life, especially after years of it being absent, but Square Enix decided to take the risk and do so with a game which had achieved cult status, Deus Ex.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution announced itself with one of the most engrossing, almost cinematic trailer which left everyone who watched it with their jaw on the floor. As more and more information on the game became available, it became obvious that every aspect
of the game was receiving the attention it deserved.
Fans became less sceptical and began looking forward to the game. Once it was released, the game received nothing but praise from critics and gamers alike with only a few minor issues worthy of a mention in the game.
With a very impressive average rating of 89, when all the scores are taken, Deus Ex was a hit with the ‘experts’ but that did not necessarily guarantee financial success. Now however, Square Enix can relax and reap what they sowed.
Topping the charts for the first two weeks since its release Human Revolution is still going strong in the charts and continues to rake in the revenue for its publisher while keeping fans happy at the same time for being given a quality product.
On the other hand, the hype surrounding Max Payne’s next first foray into next generation consoles just went up a considerable amount after an analyst estimated that the development for Max Payne 3 cost a staggering $105-million.
Many Hollywood movies would be jealous of a budget that large, excluding Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg of course, but even by video game standards that is substantial fee.
Arvind Bhatia, an analyst for Sterne Agee, was responsible for the figure; though we are pretty sure he has more than enough evidence to back it up.
According to him, Max Payne 3 needs to sell 4-million copies just to cover up its costs, with any profits only possible if sales exceed that figure.
While the game’s publisher Rockstar has not commented on the statement, there is plenty to back the statement up as a staff of around 200 people worked on the development of the game for around five years.
Again, this is still speculation but that will not stop the anticipation level surrounding Max Payne’s return from going through the roof, especially after Deus Ex: Human Revolution made such a triumphant return to the modern day.
