Deutsche Bank Golf Championship 2010: Zach Johnson and Jason Day outshine others
Men of action are favored by the Goddess of luck and here at the Deutsche Bank Golf Championship 2010, it was Zach Johnson and Jason Day, whose luck kept on saving them from bad weather. Both the boys posted 8 under on the first day of the Championship being held at the TPC Boston.
They were followed by eight players with 7 under and it was strange that only one man seemed to be struck by the bad weather and that was- Tiger Woods.
Zach is already a strong contender for the Corey Pavin’s wild card and to vault his chances into the team of 12, he was ready to take chances at Hurricane Earl. TPC Boston is facing bad weather conditions with dark clouds, heavy rains and torrential winds since the last three days amid speculations that the tournament would be further delayed. Despite the threat, Johnson carded 8 under 63 and took the title of being day leader.
His strategy seems to roll in putts from all those spots where it is easy to score. Each time the wind stopped, Johnson tried his luck on the putt and strangely, he succeeded, although, swinging and putting in such conditions seemed impossible. Experts believe that Zach Johnson has pretty good chances of being picked up by the Ryder cup team captain. Moreover, the way he scored against the wind, it actually represented his true potential.
Johnson started the round with a front nine although, it was raining heavily. As soon as he reached the back nine, he smashed a birdie at the 10th hole. Spectators applauded him as this birdie was one of the rare things seen in the day. But Johnson didn’t stop here; instead he carefully placed his second shot on the 11th green and made a beautiful 35-feet birdie on the hole. He wrapped up the game with another birdie at the 17th hole and later pared the final one. Johnson’s command on the clubs was a true representation of a perfect wedge and iron game.
While talking to the media at day’s end, Zach said that although, it wasn’t easy playing accurate shots but he realized that it was probably the easiest round of the four. As no one could predict how bad the weather would become in the next three days, therefore, he couldn’t miss the golden chance. About his Ryder team selection, he said that he was desperate to get on the team and if he gets the wild card then he will consider himself to be the luckiest player alive.
Moving further, the next guy who outshined in the presence of dark clouds was Jason Day. He too posted an identical score to that of Johnson and shot 30 on the back nine. Day is hopeful about the next three days and says that he will try to keep his focus on the future rounds while leave the rest to the weather.
As for Tiger Woods, the poor guy is back with his over par score but he still has three more days to go to try his luck and putting.
