Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012: Diana Luna slips to the 10th spot in the final round
Defending champion, Diana Luna displayed a mercurial performance at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, posting an overall 280 to finish tied for the 10th position on the leaderboard.
Luna, an Italian national, was the hot favourite for the tournament, played at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland, but could not stand her ground in the last two rounds.
The Italian star made a solid start to her Swiss Open defence in the opening round, as she fired a stunning 67.
Unlike the 2011 season, when Luna roared to triumph in an impressive style, the defending championship was seen struggling in the last two rounds.
The rising star was standing at the 5th position at the end of the third round — something analysts said would have helped her move closer to the top spot if she had played a little more sensibly in the concluding round.
She kicked off the round with confidence and parred the first five holes. Commentators said that Luna could have made a birdie-putt on the first five holes, but she could not judge the ball properly.
Luna regained her composure after shooting a birdie on the 6th hole. However, she missed many chances to score well.
On the back nine, the Italian prodigy appeared a little shaken up, as she recorded a double bogey on the par-4 10th. She then parred the next four holes and scored her second birdie on the par-5 15th hole.
The weather conditions remained almost the same as the previous day, but the blazing sun made it hard for players to play comfortably.
Scottish Carly Booth stunned her fans once again, as she won the tournament in a three-way playoff.
Booth battled German duo Anja Monke and Caroline Masson on the extra holes, but walked away with her second LET (Ladies European Tour) title, after making an eagle on the fourth hole.
Most of the big names, who dominated the leaderboard until the fourth round, slumped to lower positions after lesser-known players stepped up pressure on their rivals.
Australian Rebecca Artis, who clung to the top spot in the first three rounds, took a nosedive after posting an unimpressive 74 in the final round. She finished tied for the 8th position.
