Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012: Diana Luna ties for the second position at the end of the second round
Defending champion, Diana Luna, ramped up pressure on her rivals in the second round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, after she tied for the second place.
Luna, an Italian native, was more than happy at the end of the second round because she managed to maintain her position by shooting a 70.
The tournament, being played at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland, is featuring battle-hardened LET (Ladies European Tour) contenders, making the prestigious tournament even more interesting.
Some of the key players include Aussie Rebecca Artis, Florentyna Parker, Carly Booth of Scotland, Lydia Hall, Lee-Anne Pace and others.
Luna kicked off the second round with plenty of confidence, as she parred the first three holes. She faltered on the difficult par-3 4th, but regained composure by shooting two birdies on the 7th and 9th hole.
On the back nine, the Italian star remained composed, as she avoided making careless strokes. With no bogey on the scorecard, Luna posted a 36 on the final nine holes.
The weather conditions were quite favourable, but strong breeze kept most of the players in trouble. Analysts said that the weather was relatively rough as compared to Thursday, as modest gusts whipped through the course intermittently.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Luna said that she was glad that she was able to strengthen her position on the leaderboard. The defending champion pointed out that her fans are expecting a great deal from her, as she is one of the strongest
contenders in the roster.
Luna said that she faced trouble making putts on some holes, due largely to afternoon heat.
“I am very pleased. It was very tough out there this afternoon. The wind was blowing and it was gusting and changing direction pretty much the whole way around,” the favourite star said.
“I think it was hard out there and of course I was hanging well even though I had a few bad shots and managed to recover very well. I was very pleased about that”.
Australian Rebecca Artis remained strong in the second round, as she maintained her lead by posting 71.
