Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012: Diana Luna ties for the third spot at the end of the first round
Italian Diana Luna, who is defending her title at the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, posted a 67 in the first round to stand tied for the third position, along with French Barbara Genuini.
Luna exhibited a solid performance right from the start and remained firm on every hole. She faced a little trouble outperforming the leader, but overall, piled up a big score, putting her in a strong position.
Luna is among the hot favourites for the title, as she has vast experience on the course. Moreover, the crowd remained very supportive, which helped her maintain a high morale on the course.
The Italian star kicked off the round with confidence, as she did not appear to be under pressure due to a field featuring players like Aussie Karen Lunn, Lee-Anne Pace, who won the 2010 edition of the tournament, Caroline Westrup, Linda Wessberg, Stacey
Keating and Laura Davies.
Despite the fearsome field, Luna forged ahead by shooting calculated putts. She cheered the spectators when she posted a birdie on the tricky par-3 7th hole.
On the back nine, the defending champion scored three birdies and one bogey.
The match turned into a tough battle when Artis and Parker who is standing at the second spot, fought hard to sure past each other.
Commentators said that if Luna had played a more sensible game early in the day, she would have registered a huge score. They said that the player is firm to claw her way up to the top, as the spectators expect her to emerge as the strongest contender in
the prestigious tournament.
Speaking to the media about her first-round performance, Luna said that she is glad that she got off to a superb start, which will help her consolidate her position in the second and third round.
Luna went on to say that her fans have pinned high hopes on her, as she won the last edition. She pointed out that the next rounds will be much easier, as she has adjusted to the current conditions.
“It’s a very nice way to start a tournament of course, especially when you are defending champion,” the Italian prodigy said.
