Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012: Scottish Carly Booth shoots an ace on difficult 11th hole
Scottish Carly Booth stunned fans in the opening round of the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012 by shooting a hole-in-one on the 11th hole.
Booth looked in a great form and played comfortable strokes on almost all the holes. However, she grabbed much of the attention on the opening day.
The Scottish star kicked off the first round in impressive style, as she moved ahead by making careful strokes. She parred the first three holes and drained a birdie on the par-4 5th hole.
Although Booth was not among the favourite contenders for the coveted title, her performance has put her in the limelight. On the front nine, the young prodigy recorded 37 by making two birdies.
She looked completely fired up on the back-nine. The crowd at Golf Gerre Losone, Switzerland, was quite supportive. Booth received a massive round of applause on the difficult par-3 11th, as she made an ace.
Analysts said that the rising star, who won the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open 2012, was not expected to perform so well, but making a hole-in-one has certainly helped boost her confidence.
Speaking to the media about the ace, Booth said that she never thought that she would be able to make an ace in a tournament featuring LET (Ladies European Tour) giants.
The 19-year-old golfer added that this is the first time that she has shot an ace in a professional event. “It’s my first in a tournament but I think I had one when I was a lot younger”.
The golfing sensation fired an overall 70 in the opening round to share the 22nd spot on the leaderboard. Golf commentators said that Booth is doing fine, but she will have to put her best forward in the next rounds.
They said that the good weather conditions helped most of the players to score well. However, big names will definitely try to rebound in the second or third round.
The current leader is Rebecca Artis of Australia, who shot a stunning 64 to grab the top spot on the leaderboard.
“I was hitting the ball well so I was just trying to fly it at the pins really. The greens are soft so we can really fly it at the pin,” Artis said.
