Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012: Veronica Zorzi stands at the second spot at the end of the second round
Italian Veronica Zorzi managed to safeguard the second spot at the end of the second round of Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open 2012, as she shot an explosive 68. Zorzi got off to a sensible start at the Swiss Open, as she posted a 69 on the opening day.
The opening day saw most of the player score well. However, the Italian prodigy remained strong with full force in the second round, consolidating her position on the leaderboard.
Zorzi’s fellow Italian, Diana Luna also stood firm in the round, as she carded a 70 to share the second position on the leaderboard.
Luna is the defending champion, and she vowed to attain the glory once again. Other star performers include Aussie Rebecca Artis, who maintained her lead in the second round as well, after she shot a 71.
Analysts said that Zorzi was not among the favourite contenders for the coveted title, but she did far better than the expectations.
Having proved pre-match predictions wrong, the Italian golfer appears determined to keep the pressure high on her rivals in the third round as well.
The 31-year-old star kicked off the round in an amazing style, as she made a birdie on the very first hole. She then parred the second hole. On the par-5 3rd, Zorzi could not judge the ball and ended up recording a bogey.
Regaining her composure, she cheered her fans when she drained two back-to-back birdies on the difficult par-3 4th and the par-4 5th. On the back, the golfing sensation continued her stunning form, as she recorded three birdies and
just one bogey.
Commentators said that Zorzi has struck fear into big names after she put up a tough fight and surged past most of the top-ranked LET (Ladies European Tour) contenders.
They said that the coming rounds may pose a little challenge to the professional player, but she appears to be in high spirits.
Artis was more than thrilled after strengthening her position on the leaderboard. Speaking to the media about her performance in the second round, the Aussie star said that she found it a little difficult to score well, but thanks to her first-round performance,
she managed to stay ahead.
