DeutscheBank Ladies Swiss Open to resume on Sunday with Carin Koch in the lead
The second round of the DeutscheBank Ladies Swiss Open, which was postponed due to inclement weather conditions on Friday, will resume at 7:30 am (Swedish Standard Time) on Sunday. The Ladies European Tour event is taking place
at the par-72 Golf Gerre Losone.
The tournament was called off at 3:30 am when rain turned the course into a huge lake. The second round was announced to resume on Saturday, but the course conditions did not allow the schedule to be executed as planned.
According to the leaderboard, Carin Koch smashed a score of six-under par 66 in the second round to take the clubhouse lead. The Swede teed off in the morning from the front and successfully completed her round by reeling six birdies
without dropping a shot.
Koch's first accomplishment arrived at the par-5 third, where she produced an accurate drive, which hit the green in regulation and later made room for her first birdie. The three-time winner marched towards the ninth hole, fired
another smooth drive towards the fairway, and managed to anchor another birdie for the scorecard.
Making her way towards the back with the wind blowing in the direction of north, Koch clamped four more birdies and wrapped the day with a score of nine-under par.
When asked to comment on her game, the Swede said, “I just played solid golf. I had some drives that were not perfect but I hit a lot of good shots and stayed patient. In the end, I had four birdies in the last five holes. We did
not have any wind on the front nine today and we really didn’t have any wind yesterday afternoon. Maybe this time we got the good draw.”
Koch relished a success rate of 91.67 percent in Green Hits in Regulation and 50 percent in driving accuracy. The eminent difference between the two showed the difference between her short and long game.
The player is confident that she will better her performance in the final round of the competition, provided she remains motivated by then.
Earlier she said regarding the motivation issue, “I’ve had more motivational problems this year and I haven’t really enjoyed it as much.”
Koch was joined by Laura Davies, who posted a similar score with the help of five birdies and one eagle.
