Just trying out my german above.

Is it true that most Germans hate America for defeat in the World Wars?

Also, is it awkward for a German child/teen living in America learning about the Holocaust? I think it would feel awkward learning about that.

No offense, if any was taken. German people are really cool, but I was wondering.

  1. i am german and we are awsome and dont hate america

did u know more ppl of german ancestry are in the us than any other heratage?

    WE ARE TE MAJORITY HERE!

Essen Sie Scheiße und sterben Sie! (just kidding)

  2. If have to correct you my son

Germany is one of our closest Allies so please do not insult them and delete this horrible question.

@ Geier if you don't stop spreading false news on here I will have you deported to Guantanamo !

  3. Germans don't hate America or anyone else for defeat in WWII.

Many Europeans tend to associate America and Americans with negative things these days, so there's nothing particularly German about anti-American attitudes.

Children living in Germany learn about the Holocaust at school, where it is impressed upon them how important it is to uphold democratic values and respect for fellow human beings so that nothing like the Holocaust happens again.  If the same approach is taken in the US, there should be no reason for anyone to feel more than normally awkward when learning about the Holocaust (awkward, ashamed, sickened -- I felt all of these learning about the Holocaust, and I'm not German).

If the approach is taken that what happened happened because of something that applies only to Germany and not to humanity in general, that would presumably make anyone who is German and not from one of the persecuted minorities feel more than normally awkward.

P.S. The question "Do Germans hate America / Americans" translates as "Hassen die Deutschen Amerika / die Amerikaner?" -- just in case you're looking to improve your language skills  ;)

  4. I figure its the same with us and vietnam or whatever. I don't think it's that big of a deal when learning about it, every country/group has losses etc. The germans did have arguably the best army just made a few too many big mistakes that costed them, they would have potentially conquered the world and been the super race... too bad the US had to trash the party on them and Japan haha.

  5. No, and I went to school with a few German Americans (children of German immigrant families - German speaking) when we covered the holocaust - they were too young to have been involved so it wasn't that big a deal. Their families were not pro n**i, so it wasn't a problem for them either.

Most German Americans still have family in Germany, I don't see any bitterness in those that I know. Germans are a strong presence in the US - 1 in every 4 Americans has German heritage.

In the schools in Germany the holocaust and the n**i regime are discussed thoroughly, they have not shied away from it, unlike the Japanese who do not discuss anything negative on their side. In the US we cover all of the war, not just the US side, and we do cover the A bomb part as well - it is all there, warts and all.

Edit - for those who cannot seem to tell the difference between a country and it's government; you hate Americans? How sad for you that you can not grasp this difference ...hate is an ugly thing.  I am not a fan of Bush at all, but there is no comparison between the n***s and the Bush presidency however morally corrupt it is. Invading a country without cause is really the only comparable act. Ramp down the hyperbole. Bush is the worst US president I have seen - but he is not America.

  6. we dont hate the USA cause we lost the war(USA was not the leading force against the n***s)

We hate the USA cause it is like the n**i regime.the difference is the amount of victims

    We hate the USA cause:

    Killing innocent people

    Torturing innocent people

One german was kidnapped by the USA for months(no proofs) and was tortured most of the time..german government got information about it and got him free

    starting wars without legal proof

The highly blinded and hyper patriotic population reminds us also of n**i-germany

links will be added if needed

    thumbs down?

typcial US american. Most US americans with whom i talked about the USA and its cruelties ended up in just saying that all are lies and swearing

some years in prisons like abu ghraib for doing nothing would open your eyes

edit: to the guy down there

u may read again my answer

i said we hate the USA not all US americans

The n***s did kill innocent people---The USA too

The n***s tortured innocent ---the USA does too

The n***s had a blinded and hyper patriotic population--the USA mainly has too

so tell me where is the difference except of the amount of victims?

    It is no current problem

The USA lead a coup d'etat 1973 in chile against a legally voted government

    3.000 democrats were killed

edit: the facts are bitter not me

    Edit: Chesire Cat

    EDIT

Cat are u blind or just stupid???

i never wrote that we or i hate US americans..USA!!!

and by the way the way you are friendly to be polite..

we regard US americans as superficial

superficiality is at least for me an offens

I am American and my closest friends are Germans so I would say a definate NO on that one. Just folk tales.

  8. Germans don't hate Americans

German Kids learn in German schools about the holocaust.

My daughter( 15 old )is in an American HS here in Texas and she didn't feel awkward to learn about the Holocaust .

    @slipstreamer

    Good answer !Thumbs up :)

    @Geier

    Don't be so bitter

    EDIT

ppl who hate US- Americans never lived or visited the USA.

How can you hate ppl who are extremely friendly , polite , open minded and help each other out ?

I live here since 2 y now and I had not even one bad experience with the ppl over here.

  9. we like americans, only Bush is out of the question.

we like America too, nice country, lot of very nice spots, great music (blues).

no, we don't hate americans because of the WW II defeat. Most of the germans that where fighting in that awfull war a dead by now anywhy.

we know a lot about our history and we have learned a lot, our conclusion is : no more war, no more killing!

more and more jewish people move back to germany because they know that we have learned from our history.

Americans are always welcome in our little country.
