Question:

Developing Color Film?

Hi.. I've developed black and white negatives but I hear that color film negatives cannot be pushed or pulled. (Basically must be developed at a strictly set time). However, what if I use chemicals at a warmer temp. than labeled? Will this push the film at all? Will it make it more grainy (an effect I desire)? Will warmer chems. do anything to the colors (more contrasty or duller?) Also if anyone could reccomend a good website or book that goes more in depth, that would be great too. Thanks!!

  1. If you use a warmer solution, you will have to reduce the developing time according to a chart, which is most likely provided with the chemicals.  You CAN alter the time to push or pull your film somewhat, but you can't go nearly as far a you can with B&W.  1 stop is reasonable.  If you can go really warm, like 80°F, you will probably increase the grain to a noticeable degree.
