  1. i agree ,but we must change to reach zero disposals by enhancing new technologies

  2. Why do the two concepts have to be mutually exclusive. I believe we should be helping developing countries with ways to reduce their greenhouse emissions while they are developing. We are complaining that China is building a new coal plant every 10 days, we should be helping them develope wind, solar and hydro electric. They don't want the pollution any more than we do, but they need the electricity.

The US should be the leader in clean energy instead of telling the world we aren't going to do it unless China, India and Brazil do it too.

  3. hi

  4. The general argument in favour of that statement would be that once the countries have developed they can afford to be more environmentally friendly and use/develop greener forms of the things that emit green house gases.  For example, while reusable energy resources are cheaper in the longterm, its more expensive to install solar panels to a house than to just get connected to the electricity supply.

Another example is the greenhouse gases due to methane from cows.  A feedstuff is in the making which considerably lowers gas emissions from cattle, however this product will be very expensive, and developing economies would be unable to afford it.

Its basically a case of "do a bit more damage in the short term, to do less damage in the long term".  Plus, it is hard to tell developing economies to halt development when developed countries have already been through the development and caused a lot of damage.  A developed economy can afford to spend more money on environmental research.

My personal view as an environmental geoscientist is that the damage caused by developing countries such as China and India may be irreversible, and that green house gas emissions need to be cut today, not 100 years into the future when these countries have become fully developed.
