Developing speed boxing help.?

im a big fellow and I was thinking if I buy some 10 pounds weights a practice my hooks and jabs with those. Can I get faster by doing this? also How do I punch a guy who backs up really fast all the time

  1. Hand Speed - I do the same exact thing as you do-- except start out with 5 pounds then get to 8 pounds then 10.

    I've been at 5 pounds for a while because I don't want to burn the 40 bucks to buy the 10 pound dumbbells.

    It really helps A LOT. You'll see a huge improvement in hand speed.


  2. Your idea to use those weights to punch with is perfect. Not just for speed, but for power as well.

    If i may suggest, try them smaller first. Try 5 pounds, then move up to 7-8 and then 10. Throw every punch in the arsenal, not just hooks and jabs.

    Doing this will greatly increase your speed and power, almost immediately it seems.

    And to answer your question about a fighter who backs up: I wish you would have given more info about his height, weight, etc. But, my suggestion would be to just keep pumping the jab. Hes obviously backing up to lure you in, so you will just walk into a punch.

    Don't fall for it. Pump the jab and straight right, fight smart and try to get him to come forward so you can land the bigger punches.
