  1. You should have received a 'red book' (a Personal Child Health Record) from your health visitor that sets out all the checks that have to be done from birth up until the start school.  When the health visitor first visits you at home she should give you one.  The book is then updated at each development check.

There is a development check at 7 months.  It consists of a short physical exam where the baby is weighed and measured.  The baby's hearing and vision is checked also.

The health visitor will then ask your child to put some blocks on top of each other, this checks its reflexes and manipulation.  You will probably be asked whether you have any concerns about your baby's health or if you notice that something might be wrong, for example they're not making baby noises, like 'baba' or 'mama'.

Usually everything will be ok, these checks are just done to look out for any problems there may be so that you can get some help and advice as early as needed.  Good luck.

  2. My baby had a 7-9 month check.  At this they check he was grabbing things, checked his eyes weren't crossed, they weighed him and checked he was starting to weight bear, etc.  I think he was 8 months when he was called.  He has also just had his 1-year review.  This all might depend on where you live though.  Not sure if this is a national guideline health visitors follow or not.

  3. My baby had a check at 8 months and she will have another at 1 year.

  4. Next one will be when she is about 1 year old.  However, ring your local GP and ask where the nearest baby clinic is.  You can trot along and get her weighed and see a health visitor there for a chat.  Everyone is welcome.

  5. Here the pediatrician asks at every appointment (5 days, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year) how our baby is doing. He asked so far if she was rolling over, sitting up, and crawling. At 1 year they do another hearing test (similar to the one they did when she was a baby in the hospital).

    Congratulations! : )

Oh and my sister didn't start crawling until she was 1 year, and didn't start walking until 2! So if you are worried.. well you can relax a little because it's perfectly normal. She's an extremely mentally and physically healthy person.
