Devils defense?

Well I have heard for a long time that the Devils are looking to get Ohlund from Vancouver for Gio (and/or Zajac).  I hate the idea of trading Gio for a defender but its obvious we need a #1 or #2 guy and with our salary cap the way it is I think trading is our only option.  I would love Schneider or even Bouwmeister (sp? awful i know) but they would all involve trades....

no great FA defender so if we want a puck moving defensman, which we need then get ready to say good bye to someone....

Mathieu Schneider is being shopped pretty hard. he would be a good fit for the Devils. i dont know what there cap space is though.

Why not just continue the trend they've been doing this year and hire the entire 1995 team back...

I know Derian Hatcher is on his way out of Philly.  Flyers are almost $4m over the cap, and his $3.5M salary needs to go.

I think they desparately need a top tier blueliner, and both Schneider and Hatcher would fit their system well.  It would be like having Rafalski or Stevens back, respectively.  Schneider isn't as good as to have as it would be to have B Raf back, but he would fill the role well.  I think Derien Hatcher could go either way.  He didn't do particularly well in Detroit but helped out a decent amount in Philly.

I think Teppo Numminen would be a good choice...He's a good defensive defenseman.  But he's totally old and I think the Devils need more young players.
