Devils keep on the winning roads defeating San Jose Sharks 2-1
The second game of Friday was hosted by the New Jersey Devils as they were up against the San Jose Sharks. The Prudential Centre, home of the Devils had seen the home team come across quite a few success and the fans were hoping for nothing less this time
either.
The game didn’t see any goals during the course of the opening two periods but the final 20 minutes of play saw Devils turn the tables. After Sharks took an early lead, Devils fought their way back and emerged as 2-1 victors of the game in the end. Ilya
Kovalchuk, winger of the Devils was the star player of the game with his winning goal and assist in the equalizing goal.
San Jose Sharks dominated the game from the word go and it looked that they would win the game with a quite a margin. However, despite all the hard work at the back and in the middle the Sharks frontline wasn’t able to match the performance.
Chances came and went for the Sharks but they failed to score. New Jersey Devils on the other hand made a few goal attempts as they found a few spaces early on. However, their game was totally overshadowed by the brilliant performance by the Sharks who controlled
the pace of the game.
Considering the dominating factor, it was disappointing to see that the Sharks couldn’t score in the period and the scores were level on 0-0 at the end of the first period. During the period Sharks made 12 goal attempts while Devils made just 2 goal attempts.
The second 20 minutes saw the Devils also set up their game as they came up with the regular attacks. The game which was previously dominated by one side now turned into an offensive battle which saw both teams constructing plays and attacking the goal.
There were several chances for both teams during the period with the inclusion of some very easy chances from which neither of the teams capitalized. Nevertheless, the period moved on with constant bombardment of shots on both goals. The period ended with
the scores still deadlocked on 0-0. During the period Sharks made 12 goal attempts while Devils made 9 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Sharks start off in the same mode as the first one but this time the difference was the fact that they scored in the 7th minute through Patrick Marleau from a quick fired shot to get into the lead.
It took a few minutes before the Devils got going. The home team successfully scored in the 10th minute through Brian Rolston during power play to level the scores. Devils got stronger and stronger with the passage of time and their game even
got better. The home crowd was set wild as they scored in the 17th minute through Ilya Kovalchuk from well placed flick shot.
Both teams attacked as the period was nearing its end and they had some goal scoring opportunities. The offence of the Sharks looked rusty which was unable to score from the easiest of chances. The period and the game ended with the Devils winning the game
2-1 in the end.
During the course of the final 20 minutes of play, Devils made 12 goal attempts while the Sharks made 8 goal attempts.
