Devin Ebanks agrees to a one year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Update
A week after agreeing to bring in veteran point guard Steve Nash over from the Phoenix Suns on a sign an trade deal, Los Angeles Lakers have chosen to go in a slightly younger direction, deciding to retain restricted free agent
Devin Ebanks on a one year deal.
Ebanks’s agent, David Bauman has revealed the details of the agreement that will see his client make $1,085,000 for the coming season. While giving a phone interview to an ESPN representative, Bauman shed light on how happy Ebanks
is to stay with the Lakers.
"He's happy there, "He wants to show (Lakers coach) Mike Brown what he can do,"- Bauman said.
Ebanks has been a decent role player for the Lakers, and will be taking part in the Las Vegas Summer league. This can be a good chance for the guard to re-assure his worth to the franchise.
The chances and the minutes for Ebanks will see a definitive rise next season as the Lakers are reportedly not bringing back free agent forward Matt Barnes. They have also been linked with a move for Grant Hill to provide depth
to bench production, something which was almost non-existent last season.
Coming into next season which will be Ebanks’s third in NBA, the player will be looking to improve on the contributions from last year, during which he could only average 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds while coming in to replace Metta
World Peace and Kobe Bryant.
The numbers did see a minor improvement during the games in which he was given a starting nod by Mike Brown, as he averaged 6.4 points and 3.2 rebounds.
The Lakers will also be hoping that Ebanks will finally start delivering on his talent which made them draft him as a second round pick back in 2010.
However he is not the only bench player which the Lakers hope to see make significant contribution coming into next season. Andrew Goudelock, Darius Morris and Christian Eyenga were all found wanting last time around and their
slumps were pretty much part of the reason that the Lakers failed to show their usual pedigree throughout the season, and then in the playoffs. The franchise has also received some more bench reinforcements in this year’s draft - Darius Johnson-Odom and Robert
Sacre picked up by the Lakers in the second round.
