Devin Harris finally getting a hang of things at Utah Jazz – NBA Update
Devin Harris, the veteran point guard, who joined the Utah Jazz along with Derrick Favors, 2 draft picks and a bunch load of cash in a trade which saw All-star point guard Deron Williams depart to the New Jersey Nets, finally seems
to have found his niche.
Harris has always been an offense first sort of a PG and after months of adjustment with Coach Tyrone Corbin’s system, Devin has smoothly transitioned into the offensive system, contributing in a major way. He has been impressive
in the previous three games, before tonight, where he answered the Jazz call by hitting clutch three pointers down the stretch.
"He's been making timely 3-pointers for us of late," Jazz Coach Tyrone Corbin said Tuesday after Utah stopped the eleven game streak of the San Antonio Spurs.
From being a player that played in three consecutive playoff seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Harris has not had much luck in reaching the post season action since then. In his 8 years in NBA, Harris had played with three teams.
He was traded to the New Jersey Nets for Jason Kidd in 2008 and was traded to the Jazz in return for William perhaps symbolizing the fact that he has always been taken as the ‘other’ point guard in the trade.
Harris who has been averaging 15.8 points per the game with Jazz has come out this season as a much stronger and experienced player. It took him a while to settle in at the team from Salt Lake City but he has started to return
the favour to the Jazz management, who have been very patient with him.
He has worked to get back to his rhythm and speed getting back to his ways of an up-tempo fast paced style of play. Harris holds the record for being the fastest man on the court, running from baseline to baseline in 3.9 seconds.
It has taken a lot work to get back to his best but Harris feels he is getting there.
"I've had flashes, especially the second part of the season after the All-Star break," Harris said of playing up to his old level. "But I'm trying to find a level of consistency."
His recent performances prove that fact that Devin has worked on his game and has significantly improved on his shooting range. He has averaged 23.7 points in the last three games and has been successful on half his attempts from
beyond the arch (11-22) but with the season coming to a close, will he be able to help the Jazz.
In Jazz`s last outing, one against the Spurs, Harris made a personal run of 11-0 in the fourth quarter to help the Jazz in defeating the Western Conference powerhouses 91-84.
After tonight’s win against the Houston Rockets, Utah have moved just 1.5 games shy of the eighth seeded Rockets and with 4 games at home to end the season, they are in with a strong chance to squeak into the final 8 of the West.
Harris failed to run the Jazz offense tonight due to foul trouble, but the team will be looking up to him to provide the much needed spark in the coming games to successfully make it to the playoffs.
