Devon Alexander all set to take on Lucas Martin Matthysse – Boxing news
The fight between the American professional Junior Welterweight Devon Alexander and the Argentinean professional Light Welterweight Lucas Martin Matthysse has been decided to take place on June 25, 2011 at the Family Arena in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Alexander the Great, who has been the former World Boxing Council’s (WBC) and International Boxing Federation’s (IBF) Light Welterweight Champion, is coming to the ring after a loss of bout to Timothy Bradley on January 25, 2011 at the Silverdome in Michigan.
The Southpaw Stance lost the WBC Light Welterweight title in the process. Alexander was scheduled to go against Kaizer Mabuza before facing Bradley. Afterwards, Alexander’s International Boxing Federation’s (IBF) Light Welterweight title was taken back as
he refused to fight Mabuza. Alexander faced the first ever loss of his career after getting defeated by Bradley.
The 24-year-old, Alexander should not try to underestimate his opponent. The boxing critics are of the view that the fight will be very dangerous and Alexander can have a tough time against Matthysse than he faced in the Bradley fight keeping in view the
extraordinary fast punching capabilities of Matthysse.
The positive point for Alexander in that fighting combat is that he is going to fight in front of his home crowd. If the 12-round bout goes into the hands of judges then Alexander may have more chances of a win than Matthysse does.
Alexander’s opposition, Matthysse was defeated by Zab Judah on November 6, 2010. Both the fighters were face to face for the vacant World Boxing Organisation’s (WBO) and NABO Light Welterweight title at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
Judah won a 12-round split decision over the 28-year-old Matthysse. The first four rounds were won by Judah. However, despite winning five impressive rounds and the fact that he put Judah down in the 10th round, he could not win that bout.
Let’s see if Matthysse is able to beat Alexander this time.
