Devon Alexander fantasizes about Manny Pacquiao bout
Just days after manager Kevin Cunningham said involved parties should be focused on a January 29 bout between Devon Alexander and Timothy Bradley, Alexander is thinking about more distant opponents.
The WBC junior welterweight champion, slated to face WBO king Bradley in upcoming months, is Manny Pacquiao struck.
“Next fall, me and Pacquiao will be in the ring,” Alexander mused. “I'm not saying I'm looking past Bradley, but next fall it’s going to be something: a kid from North St. Louis fighting one of the best fighters in a mega fight, probably in Vegas. It's going
to be huge,” Alexander, 23, said to the St. Louis Post.
Alexander is coming off a controversial unanimous twelve round decision against Andriy Kotelnik. The fight was much more difficult than Alexander anticipated, though he admits he learned from his mistakes.
Against Bradley he will have the opportunity to unify his championship with the WBO title—though that option won’t be available for Bradley, who refused to pay the WBC necessary sanctioning fees.
Pacquiao is basking in celebration after his weekend dismantling of Antonio Margarito in Arlington, Texas. “Pacman,” the much smaller opponent, was able to outsmart a game Margarito and teach him a boxing lesson.
Negotiations between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are once again sizzling in the foreground, but should “Money” refuse to come to the table Alexander will happily step up to the plate.
His chances of getting to Pacquiao will be that much better with a win over Bradley.
The winner of the Alexander-Bradley clash is expected to meet the winner of a December 11 contest between WBA titlist Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana. By rights, the winner of both matches will be able to declare their superiority in the junior welterweight
division.
